I read this book in one day。 This book is a must read for anyone who is struggling mentally or physically。 If you know someone who is struggling, it would be a good idea to read this to understand what might be going on and why their space doesn't look like yours。 Thank you KC for writing this book and making those of us who are drowning feel better about ourselves。 I read this book in one day。 This book is a must read for anyone who is struggling mentally or physically。 If you know someone who is struggling, it would be a good idea to read this to understand what might be going on and why their space doesn't look like yours。 Thank you KC for writing this book and making those of us who are drowning feel better about ourselves。 。。。more

I think everyone should read (or listen to, like I did) this book。 KC brings her background as a therapist to the topics of housekeeping, hygiene, and organization with copious amounts of compassion。 She’s also quick to point out the many differences in circumstances among people, such as race and class privileges, mental and physical illnesses, neurodivergence, and more。 At just three hours, the audiobook is especially accessible。

Required reading for depression babes。 I love KC’s videos so it is awesome to have all her ideas collected in a little reference book。 I will be returning to this as needed!!

Love this author and this book! Some really powerful truths。

I never review things but this book is truly revolutionary on several levels。 Not only for the concepts introduced, but for the attention to inclusivity of design。

Read as audiobook from Audible。 Well narrated by the author。It all comes down to being kind to yourself and knowing that care tasks are morally neutral。 Yes, doing so is harder than it sounds but knowing it's ok to just be is enough。 Read as audiobook from Audible。 Well narrated by the author。It all comes down to being kind to yourself and knowing that care tasks are morally neutral。 Yes, doing so is harder than it sounds but knowing it's ok to just be is enough。 。。。more

If there is one book everyone needs to read, it’s this one。 Concise, through, and kind。 And written to be as accessible as possible。

This is a book I wish I had right after my daughter was born, and I was caring for her and trying to keep the house in order。 I was always so exhausted。 This book is for anyone feeling overwhelmed with cleaning。 The author shares excellent guidance on helping you get into the right mindset and being okay with good enough。 Your cleaning system doesn’t have to be like anyone else’s。 You do what works for you。 KC shared some fantastic tips that keeps her house functional。

Critical read for those struggling with executive function。This book is short, to the point, and full of tips and affirmations for removing feelings of shame from cleaning。

This is an affirming book about compassion。 It is the antithesis of keeping a house clean at all costs。 She offers hope and concrete language shifts and perspective shifts for the many individuals who struggle with more complex lives for a myriad of reasons。 This book offers you permission to reject the notion of completing tasks as moral standards。 By reframing language, she arms you with ways to shut down the ever-present ugly trolls: negative self-talk, shame, and embarrassment。Her reframing This is an affirming book about compassion。 It is the antithesis of keeping a house clean at all costs。 She offers hope and concrete language shifts and perspective shifts for the many individuals who struggle with more complex lives for a myriad of reasons。 This book offers you permission to reject the notion of completing tasks as moral standards。 By reframing language, she arms you with ways to shut down the ever-present ugly trolls: negative self-talk, shame, and embarrassment。Her reframing of language and alternate approach to processing allows for a shift that provides benevolence to ourselves, which we often reserved for others。 As a 42-year-old woman with ADHD diagnosed just a year ago, this book spoke to my soul! 。。。more

Thanks to Netgalley and Simon Element for the ARC of this! I read the first edition of this and have binged all of the author’s TikToks on my quest to take control of my housekeeping situation。 Between mental health issues, tough pregnancies, and a hard time adjusting to the new normal at each stage of parenting, everything felt very overwhelming and I was internalizing all of that to decide what kind of wife, mother, and person I was based on how much I’d managed to get done and what was left。 Thanks to Netgalley and Simon Element for the ARC of this! Review book from the publisher in exchange for my review。K。C。 Davis writes with compassion as she describes her reasons for sharing her thoughts and philosophy of keeping house, how she and her husband divide or share tasks, and ultimately she conveys the message of treating yourself with kindness。 I found a lot of her tips to be common sense but many people will find kernels of wisdom and encouragement。

Compassionate and affirming book on not only cleaning but accepting who you are and how you function。 Chapters are short and simple with gentle concepts and explanations。 Resonated deeply。 Loved the title。 Highly recommend。 Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

I will probably read this over and over until it sinks in。 KC is a favorite Tiktok creator of mine。 I found her book through her page, and I am learning that mess isn't moral and good parenting isn't the same as spotless living。 I will probably read this over and over until it sinks in。 KC is a favorite Tiktok creator of mine。 I found her book through her page, and I am learning that mess isn't moral and good parenting isn't the same as spotless living。 。。。more

How to Keep House While Drowning is the most realistic self help book I have read。 It's short and to the point。 It talks about the shame of a dirty house and how to let go of the shame。 It gives easy to follow ideas on how to keep up with talks。 It even renames these tasks and gives a completely different perspective on house cleaning。 I will use some of these techniques when I am feeling overwhelmed about how much needs to be done and don't have a lot of time to do it。 Thanks to netgalley and S How to Keep House While Drowning is the most realistic self help book I have read。 It's short and to the point。 It talks about the shame of a dirty house and how to let go of the shame。 It gives easy to follow ideas on how to keep up with talks。 It even renames these tasks and gives a completely different perspective on house cleaning。 I will use some of these techniques when I am feeling overwhelmed about how much needs to be done and don't have a lot of time to do it。 Thanks to netgalley and Simon Element for the arc。 。。。more

3。5 Sometimes one is just not up to par, either physically or mentally, or both。 This book does a good job describing short cuts, while making the point of points, that this is not something for which one should feel shame。 Keeping house with its myriad of chores, is often not easy during the best of times, and near impossible at others。 Loved her matter of fact approach and though some of it is common sense, others will be of use。 ARC from Netgalley。

As a woman with ADHD, this book is a game changer!I have read and re-read this book over the course of a year。 Having it on my phone has been SO GOOD for me because I could read just a little bit at once, anywhere or any time。。。which is exactly the kind of thing the author would recommend I believe。 My biggest takeaway is that care tasks (chores) are MORALLY NEUTRAL。 It is not a reflection of how good a wife or mom I am based on how clean my house is。 Thinking that only serves to paralyze and ov As a woman with ADHD, this book is a game changer!I have read and re-read this book over the course of a year。 Having it on my phone has been SO GOOD for me because I could read just a little bit at once, anywhere or any time。。。which is exactly the kind of thing the author would recommend I believe。 My biggest takeaway is that care tasks (chores) are MORALLY NEUTRAL。 It is not a reflection of how good a wife or mom I am based on how clean my house is。 Thinking that only serves to paralyze and overwhelm me。 Instead, looking at it from a different perspective breaks tasks down to bite sized pieces that are totally manageable。On my time。When I'm up for it。And if all I can manage is washing the few necessary pairs of underwear the family needs that day, then that is enough。 It's okay。 Tomorrow, I can use some of her techniques for breaking the care task of laundry into steps that work best for that day's level of functioning。 We aren't made to maintain a perfect, static level of clean。 We do care tasks so that we can enjoy our lives and loved ones! Give yourself permission to live life without a cloud of guilt and shame as your cleaning motivation! Learn how to see things in a healthy light, while learning some practical skills along the way。 。。。more

Wooooow。 This is an important book。 I grabbed this as an ALC having no idea about the author herself。 Davis is in recovery from alcohol use disorder, and as a fellow sober lady, I related to almost everything she was experiencing as a mom trying to hold it all together while also feeling like a failure。 The suggestions and rhythms in this book are gentle, practical, and can actually lead to long lasting change, unlike other books that suggest a complete overhaul of your system because it sucks a Wooooow。 This is an important book。 I grabbed this as an ALC having no idea about the author herself。 Davis is in recovery from alcohol use disorder, and as a fellow sober lady, I related to almost everything she was experiencing as a mom trying to hold it all together while also feeling like a failure。 The suggestions and rhythms in this book are gentle, practical, and can actually lead to long lasting change, unlike other books that suggest a complete overhaul of your system because it sucks and so do you。 This is a great resource that im sure I will be returning back to and suggesting to my friends when they find themselves in similar drowning stages。 Now that my kids are older and I am not numbing the thoughts away with alcohol, I don’t struggle as much。 But what remains is the self doubt, lack of knowledge of self care, and general lack of rhythm。 I particularly liked her discussion about teeth brushing。 There’s not many people who talk about the struggle to brush openly, and I appreciated that she got right to the heart of the issue。 It actually made me get up and go do the task I avoid every single day。 The way she frames things like cleaning, laundry, and teeth brushing as morally neutral really helped me take the pressure off of myself。 。。。more

Short, sweet, to the point。 Solid advice and practical as well。 I think I needed this, I know I needed this。

Just a few snippets of good info。 I know it was supposed to be short but many sections were lacking, seemed unfinished, or left me wanting more complete information。

*Thank you Netgalley for this ARC* I have followed Davis on TikTok for almost two years, so I have had time to internalize and put to action a lot of what she writes in this book, and let me tell you, it works。 I am a mom and work-at-home business owner。 I have anxiety, lingering aspects of PPD, and ADHD。 This book was written for me。 Rotational cleaning, closing duties, baskets in every room, "resetting" vs cleaning, visual timers, not folding clothes。。。 All these systems I've taken and impleme *Thank you Netgalley for this ARC* I have followed Davis on TikTok for almost two years, so I have had time to internalize and put to action a lot of what she writes in this book, and let me tell you, it works。 I am a mom and work-at-home business owner。 I have anxiety, lingering aspects of PPD, and ADHD。 This book was written for me。 Rotational cleaning, closing duties, baskets in every room, "resetting" vs cleaning, visual timers, not folding clothes。。。 All these systems I've taken and implemented from Davis' Tiktoks and she goes into much more detail in this updated version of her book。 It feels so validating to know that I am not alone in my executive dysfunctions of cleaning my house。This is for anyone who has ever felt like keeping your space organized is impossible, or have been paralyzed at the thought of where to start。 This book will help you create systems that work for you。 Davis feels like a friend, and I'm thankful for her guidance。*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review!* 。。。more

The author talks to the reader in such an accepting and kind way。 Sometimes we are incapable of doing the simplest housework, and in this short paperback K。C。 helps us find a way to get started and feel OK。I understand this book so much more than I would have prior to the pandemic。
